CITY SIGN DION DUBLIN

THE Canaries today completed the signing of former England striker Dion Dublin on a free transfer.

The 37-year-old is a free agent after his release from Celtic in the summer and joins the Canaries until the end of the season.

City boss Nigel Worthington said he was deligjted to secure Dublin's signature.

"I'm delighted to capture such an experienced, quality player who will be a valuable addition to the squad and in the dressing room," he said.

"He's a big character and a top quality player whose ability and professionalism will be a big plus for us. His main position is as a striker and that's where I'm looking for him to be involved, although obviously he can also provide strong cover in the centre of defence as well."

The move signals a return to Carrow Road for the former Premiership star, with Dublin beginning his career with the Canaries as a trainee back in 1988.

He played a handful of reserve games before being released to join Cambridge, the club where he made his name as a prolific marksman.

His form for the Us won him a dream ?1m move to Manchester United, a transfer which soon turned sour when he suffered a broken leg.

He went on to make just four starts for the Red Devils, scoring twice, before moving to Coventry City for ?2m.

It was here he began to take the Premiership by storm, scoring 72 times in four years before transferring to midland rivals Aston Villa for ?5.75m.

He continued his goalscoring form with the Villains, notching 59 times. In 2002 he went out on loan to Millwall and was last season playing for Leicester City.

In January he joined former Coventry manager Gordon Strachan at Celtic where he played 12 times, scoring twice.
During his career he racked up four caps for England.
