I see your point, but

James has had 35+ caps of experience and a season of Premier League football of practice, where he has proven time and time again that the second he has to think, he's in trouble.

And what if he stands on the ball in training next week and busts his ankle? OK, we're getting into hypotheticals, but s**t can happen.

So it's not the best time to start experimenting perhaps, but given that he knows (Or bloody well ought to know) the limitations of James, and GIVEN that he still sees him as the #2, there's more to be learned by playing Green or Carson.
