In my humble opinion

what the team lacks at the moment is mental strength. The sort of toughness which produces consistent results, not just hammering weak teams like Millwall but grinding out results week after week, comes from having 'winners' and being managed by a 'winner'.
There's plenty of talent but that meanness, that determination to deliver game after game is missing. Lambert instilled it, so did Ron Saunders, but it's rare and very difficult to discover. I hope Mike Phelan might be able to 'get into the heads' of a few individuals to some effect but it doesn't look like it's going to happen this season.
Winning becomes second nature to some teams/managers and not always those with the best players. Getting out of this league is difficult and often achieved by the establishment of a hard attitude, a belief that every game home or away is winnable thanks to a collective belief, a plain bloodyminded refusal to accept defeat. Burnley had it last year for example.
Unfortunately it's not something often associated with Norwich City, either on or off the field.
