I don't like "The Norwich City way".

There, I've said it.

We have never ever, in my 41 years of supporting City, ever ever ever been a team that closes down the opposition when they're in possession, or mark them so tightly they can't move.

FFS. Why?

We stand a several yards off, allowing them thinking time, and the ability to spot and place a pinpoint pass that more often or not leads to a goal. Today's second goal for Brighton being a perfect example. Three of ours stood static in a semi circle, whilst their right back, puts his foot on the ball, looks up, spots the diagonal run of their scorer... and has all the time in the world to stroke a long ball cross-field and stick it on a sixpence for the incoming striker to run on to and slide the ball past Ruddy with ease.

EVERY team I've watched us face have closed us down, been quick to block and pressure (easy when we dither), and it forces us into losing possession, or passing it backwards to be lumped forward and lose possession. Being pressured and closed down forces mistakes and no time to think about where to pass the ball. Brighton did it to a T. We didn't because we never do.

That is a major contribution towards the self-inflicted goals we concede. We need to man-up and get tough. Stop being the soft-touch nicey nicey smiley pleasant and polite little family club we've reverted to. The Norwich City way has no place in modern football, if the Board, the management and the team are deadly serious about getting straight back to the Premier League.
