State spending

in this country is far far too high - certainly as a proportion of GDP - it is far far higher than at any time in our history. Much of it has been funded in the past by state borrowing. None of this is sustainable. All Cameron has said is that we must reassess the relationship between state and individual, and that it is time for people to understand that they will have to take more responsibility for their own lives. That might mean living with one's parents for some time after school, or having fewer children than one would like (shock!), or creating a job (yes! it can be done!) rather than waiting for the state to provide one, or spending less on new trainers, or working harder at school, or getting an apprenticeship and working one's way up from the bottom (slavery!), or whatever. It does not mean that Cameron has gone mad. Coffee, wake up, smell.
