Has Lambert has lost a bit of faith in Barnett?

Ayala comes straight in ahead of him after not playing a game in forever.......

If Ward comes back, where does that leave Barnett?

I am thinking one or the other has to leave (or go out on loan in the champs)

To be fair I can see why, Lambert feels Ayala is better with the ball coming out of defence.
Something all the better teams do rather than hoof it

Lambert was full of praise for Ayala after yesterdays game so I expect him to keep his place.

Also allowing Martin to go back to RB gets another guy who is good with the ball and can overlap well in the diamond.

If Naughton competes with Tierney at LB (but can also play RB)

It would seem to make sense to bring in someone like Chris Gunter who is also a versatile FB (prefers RB)

This would appear to give us ample cover across the back 4, which is what we will need in the run-in.

Our back 4 cover would look like this

Whitbread (CB)
Ayala (CB)
Barnet (CB)
Ward (CB)
De Laet (CB, RB and LB)
Martin (CB and RB)
Naughton (LB and RB)
Tierney (LB)
Drury (LB)
Gunter (RB and LB)

10 players.......

6 can play CB
4 can play RB
5 can play LB

we look a bit heavy on CBs so assuming Ward isnt fit this still leaves.

9 players....

5 can play CB
4 can play RB
5 can play LB

That looks like pretty deep cover at each defensive position if we bring in a versatile player like Chris Gunter or Rhys Williams.
